About the event
Come along to learn about (and hopefully see and hear!) the twilight existence of the world’s only true flying mammals, which live on Foots Cray Meadows.
The Friends of Foots Cray Meadows (FFCM) Bat Experience is one of our most popular annual events. FFCM’s Ray Hudson will guide you on an evening tour of the popular bat haunts on the meadows with the aid of high-tech devices to help you detect the sound waves emitted by the Pipistrelles and Daubenton's Bats, which are usually inaudible to the human ear.
The tour will start on the Five Arches Bridge and will continue into dusk as the bats emerge. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the early evening and the weather.
The cost is £2 for members of FFCM and £3 for non-members. The event is free for children, who must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Bat Conservation Trust.
Be aware that bats may not fly in wet or windy weather – unfortunately, bat sightings are not guaranteed.
